Short answer
One short supermarket stop on the way from SDQ is free — just ask when you book so the driver plans the route. Expect 20–30 minutes. Jumbo, Nacional, Bravo and Sirena are on or near the road out of the airport and towards Boca Chica, Juan Dolio and the east; villa guests usually stop before entering a gated resort where prices double.
Where to stop
Heading into Santo Domingo: Jumbo or Nacional in the city, five minutes off the route. Heading east to Juan Dolio, La Romana or Bayahibe: San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana both have full-size supermarkets right by the highway.
Going to Bávaro or Cap Cana, stop in La Romana rather than at the end — the last stretch has fewer options and the resort mini-markets are expensive.
What is worth buying
Water in 5-gallon bottles for a villa, coffee, fruit, local rum, and breakfast for the first morning. Villa kitchens rarely come stocked and delivery to a gated community can take a day.
Timing
A stop adds 20–30 minutes. If you land after 22:00, tell us in advance: most large supermarkets close between 21:00 and 22:00, and we will suggest the one still open on your route. Boca Chica $25, Juan Dolio $45, Bayahibe $140 — the stop does not change the fixed price.
