Unaccompanied Child Arriving at SDQ: Pickup and Transfer

Published by A&M Caribbean Group SRL · Published

If a child flies alone into Las Américas International Airport, arrange the airline handover before treating the arrival as an ordinary transfer. Confirm who the airline will release the child to, which identification that adult needs and where to meet. The receiving adult should complete the airline process, then meet the driver and accompany the child onward. A transfer booking or name sign does not establish authority to receive a child. This guide does not offer driver-only collection of an unaccompanied child.

Confirm the airline’s arrangements before booking the car

An unaccompanied-minor service is an airline arrangement for a child travelling without the accompanying passenger required under that airline’s rules. Eligibility, permitted flights, paperwork and handover vary. Ask the operating airline whether the service is required, whether the itinerary qualifies, who is recorded as receiving adult, which documents they need, and where and when to report at SDQ.

Ask how changes to the flight or receiving adult must be made. Do not reuse another airline’s rules or a remembered age threshold. A teenager’s booking category does not settle international document requirements. Check applicable entry and exit requirements separately; immigration paperwork and a transport booking are different arrangements.

Where does the receiving adult meet the child at SDQ?

Use the operating airline’s current SDQ instructions rather than assuming a relative can walk to the arrival gate. JetBlue currently lists unaccompanied-minor pickup in the main terminal arrivals area at SDQ and says gate passes are not available there. Its receiving adult must be designated on the airline form and present matching valid photo identification.

This is JetBlue’s published example, not a rule for every airline. Confirm the actual flight’s instructions and directions from airport staff. Do not substitute the general driver meeting point for the airline handover location. No fixed desk, door or processing duration is established by this article.

Keep the airline handover and driver meeting separate

The receiving adult first follows the airline’s instructions and completes its release process. Meeting the road-transfer driver comes afterwards. An airport pickup name sign is a meeting aid, not permission for an airline to release a child to its holder.

Our ordinary pickup instructions describe meeting a booked driver in public arrivals. They do not grant restricted-area access or replace airline checks. Arrange the plan around the designated adult receiving the child and travelling with them in the vehicle.

Get the receiving adult to SDQ independently

If the adult needs a car from a hotel, apartment or home to SDQ, request that journey explicitly. Explain the airline handover and plan arrival around the airline’s reporting instructions. Do not build the plan around the child waiting for a relative on another incoming flight: two scheduled landing times do not establish simultaneous readiness.

For example, an aunt staying in Santo Domingo may need transport to SDQ, then a later journey with the child to the family’s accommodation. These are two road journeys separated by an airline handover, not a single passenger pickup. Ask dispatch whether the complete itinerary can be provided and quoted.

Decide whether a vehicle waits or returns later

Specify transport taking the adult to SDQ, any agreed vehicle waiting, a separate later pickup, and the onward ride with adult and child. Request a written quote identifying journeys, waiting allowance, meeting arrangements and change conditions. An airport-arrival fare does not automatically include taking a relative to the airport first or waiting through the airline process.

Extra vehicle commitments require agreement. Send dispatch a useful update after handover; flight tracking shows aircraft movement, not whether the child has been released or you are ready to leave. Do not assume a special handover waiting allowance unless dispatch confirms it.

Count the adult, child and luggage in the onward booking

Describe everyone travelling after handover, not just the arriving child. Include the receiving adult, other passengers, checked and cabin bags and child-seat requirements. An adult travelling to SDQ alone may return with more people and luggage, so vehicle requirements can differ between journeys.

Where a child seat is needed, provide age, height and weight and obtain confirmation. The family guide covers seats, luggage and checks before departure. Before the car moves, confirm destination, people, bags and agreed seating. Keep the documents needed for the visit accessible to the accompanying adult.

Handle changes with the airline and dispatch separately

If the designated adult cannot attend, contact the airline for its change procedure. Telling a driver or relative does not update the airline record. If the flight changes, update airline arrangements and transport, including flight number, local arrival date and the adult’s journey.

For delay or diversion, follow the airline’s instructions for the child’s care and handover. Separately ask dispatch what happens to the road bookings. If release remains unresolved, stay in contact with airline staff rather than improvising a driver collection.

Send a request describing the whole journey

Example: I am receiving a child at SDQ on [local date], flight [airline and number]. I will complete the airline handover and accompany the child. I need [transport to SDQ / onward pickup / both]. The onward party is [adults and children], with [bags and child-seat needs], going to [full address]. Please confirm availability, vehicle, total, waiting and meeting instructions.

Keep airline forms and identity documents within the channels requiring them; transport coordination normally needs itinerary and contact details rather than copies of the child’s paperwork. Once handover is arranged, ask SDQAirportTransfer.com about the accompanied road transfer and obtain written confirmation. The airline remains the authority for releasing the child.
